Cedar Bluebird Houses-Rough Cut cedar. Kerfs inside front for fledgling foothold, roofline vent, floor drainage holes. Front opens for observation and cleaning. Angled entrance hole inhibits rain, predator guard for safety.
Rough finish mimics trees to attract bluebirds.11 1/2″ H x 5 1/2″ W x 6″ D w/ approx 1 1/2″ front roof overhang. 1 1/2″ entrance. East facing is preferred, away from prevailing winds.
My birdhouses are made from natural, 1/2″ untreated cedar. The oils in cedar make it resistant to rot, moisture and insect damage. It is resistant to temperature changes and other weather conditions. Untreated, it can be expected to last 10-15 years.
Although it will darken over time, it does not need to be painted or stained. A transparent stain on the roof will protect it from bearing the brunt of weather. Spray spar urethane is a good, natural, non-toxic stain.
My cedar is unfinished from the mill, and will have knots, bends, saw marks, cuts, cracks and warp, or may have darkened from the sun . Quality of construction is not compromised by this, and my birdhouses will give years of beauty and functionality to your property, and benefit to blue birds.
Also suitable for barn swallows, chickadees, titmouse, and nuthatches.
Handmade in Pennsylvania’s Endless Mountains.
