About me: I have a passion for creating wooden home décor ranging from small coasters to large wall pieces. I put care into my items, trying to showcase my craftmanship and attention is paid to the details. I want you to love each item as much as I do!
My process: All wood used in my shop comes from trees that fall during storms on my land. I love that this provides an eco-friendly aspect to wood that would otherwise be wasted. It’s sustainable and comes right from mother nature! After cutting the logs to an appropriate length and hauling the log to my mill, I cut each log into boards of varying thicknesses and stack them outside to start drying. Drying the wood is the longest process as it takes 8-10 months at least before I can bring the boards inside to further dry. After I am satisfied that the moisture level is low enough to be able to work with the wood (all wood has moisture and is never fully dry), I run it through the planer to get it to an even thickness. From there I let my creativity take over! Mother nature may determine what species I must work with, but I like to look at the natural attributes of each board to make my final creations. My favorite part is utilizing pieces that most woodworkers would throw out or deem junk. I dislike wasting anything. I always “see” something in all wood!
I also like to experiment with pallet wood, you will see pieces appear in my shop here and there. It provides another way to repurpose material that is often tossed out by others, while providing new challenges on my end. This also helps me incorporate more variety and showcase different characteristics in my pieces.
You may notice some items are laser engraved on the wood. This machine is a newer addition to my workshop, and I love the endless artistic possibilities it allows!
Note: When I frame wall pieces, I allow a very small gap in the back to allow the wood room to move that is not visible from the front. Wood expands and contracts no matter where it sits, this method allows the frame to stay in place and not shift.
