Deluxe “CAMERA READY ” Cedar Bluebird Nest Box- Larger Interior Space with Side Access/Cleanout

This posting is for one Deluxe “CAMERA READY” Cedar Bluebird Nest Box with cleanout. There is increasing interest in providing bluebird nest boxes with more interior space which allows for more room for the fledglings to grow in comfort.

The original DELUXE design has been modified to allow space for mounting a Blink Outdoor (GEN 3/GEN 4) camera inside from the inner roof. The modification involved adding approximately 2 inches to the overall length while maintaining the entrance hole height and distance to the floor (also known as the drop). The inner roof is also drilled out to recess the camera mount. An attached blink camera mount (GEN 3 or GEN 4) is included.
NOTE: Buyer must specify in the order notes Gen 3 or Gen 4, otherwise a Gen 3 will be included.

This design is inspired by the Two-Hole Mansion (Violett) and the Nest Home (Van Horn). I started with the basic X Box Style (Michigan Bluebird Society) and increased the dimensions to achieve approximately a 5.25 inch by 5.25 inch by 9 inches interior. Three inches have been added to the camera box height (total of 12 inches) while maintaining the original drop (entrance hole location) height to allow for camera mounting.

The X box design is a solid box. The inner roof adds structure and insulation. The inner roof joint under the outer roof is caulked. In addition, the exterior joint between the outer roof and top of the sides is also caulked. The roof is approximately 12 inches by 12 inches with a 3.5 inch overhang in the front.

I switched the box from front opening to side opening with bottom pivot. The side access opens completely horizontal. Monitoring is made quick with the use of a double headed nail “latch ” through the front and easy to grab wooden knob on the side. During the off season the side access can be screwed securely shut. Each side has three 3/4 inch diameter ventilation holes. Ventilation can be regulated with plastic 3/4 inch (19mm) plugs, eight plugs are included.

There is a saw kerf “ladder” cut into the inside of the front panel to help fledglings exit the box.

Entrance Options

The Deluxe Bluebird Nest Box is available with two entrance options:
– One 1.5 inch entrance hole
– Two 1.5 inch entrance holes ( The two hole design provides an escape should House Sparrows be an issue. Tis design also aides the coming and going of both adults during feeding of nestlings

Roof Options
Standard Roof- Cedar sanded smooth with drip edge kerfs on the underside.
Painted Roof (WHITE)- Cedar painted WHITE with drip edge kerfs on the underside. There is an added cost of $15.00 for this option.
Painted Roof (PALE PEACH)- Cedar painted PALE PEACH with drip edge kerfs on the underside. There is an added cost of $15.00 for this option.
PVC Board- White PVC trim board (¾ inch thick) with drip edge kerfs on the underside. There is an added cost of $15.00 for this option.

Mounting Options
Standard- NO mounting is provided. Buyer uses their own mounting method.
Block- Wooden block is attached to the back of the box. Block is drilled out for 1/2 inch EMT conduit (conduit strap and associated hardware is included). The mounting block allows for mounting to a smaller pole to facilitate predator guards. There is an added cost of $10.00 for this option.

PERSONALIZATION
